Antique Diving Helmets & Replica Diving Helmets
When I was talking to someone about the idea for this blog - providing ideas for gift-giving in a way that most sites don’t - he told me about a co-worker who had been looking to buy an old-fashioned diving helmet; and “that would be a cool thing to give as a gift“.
I definitely think that it would be a unique, and treasured, gift for someone (or perhaps a couple who both love nautical themes and antiques). But, in researching diving helmets I have definitely found that any antique is going to be well over $1,000, and replicas will also be expensive (at least a few hundred dollars) - so I made sure to categorize this gift idea under “High End Gifts for the Wealthy”
Some places online to purchase diving helmets:
- Antiques of the Sea
- eBay (of course; but this link will take you right to a page for diving helmets)
- Wayzata Nautical
- SeaGifts.com (good place for replicas)
Here is a great page that shows pictures & past sale prices for antique diving helmets (to get a feel for fair pricing of antique diving helmets).
And, visit DivingHeritage, which has “the worlds largest virtual diving helmet museum” (DivingHeritage also offers artist prints of divers-in-action for a more reasonably-priced gift - £64.95, located in the U.K.).
If you are looking for unique diving helemts as a gift for someone, it’s likely they would also like a variety of nautical-themed gifts. While researching websites for this blog entry, it struck me that someone might find a use for a Porthole Window (eBay, Wayzata Nautical).
