The Gift of Healthy Sleep

Posted by giftguy, Nov 28th, 2009

GiftGuy owns a Zeo, and his ZQ currently ranges between 57 and 79…

Here’s a great gadget for that person in your life that is hard to buy for and/or has trouble getting enough sleep. The Zeo Personal Sleep Coach is currently priced at $250, was developed with leading sleep scientists, and lets you track your sleep at home. The company that invented and sells the Zeo is offering a 30 Day Risk Free Trial

Learn about Zeo, a new home sleep monitor

The Zeo is a personal sleep monitor that you wear on on your forehead with a lightweight stretchy band.  The Zeo monitors your brain activity provides data about the quality of sleep that you are getting.

The Zeo is NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE!!!  It IS a cool gadget that can help you understand more about the quality of sleep you are getting when you make changes to your routine.  For example, you might see that you have an average ZQ score between 50 and 60 when you first start (if you do not typically get high-quality sleep), but you might make changes in your life in the following and see how your score improves:

  • Exercise!!!
  • Number of caffeinated drinks per day
  • How close to bedtime you have caffeine
  • Eating sweets
  • How close you eat to bedtime
  • Alcohol consumption
  • How many pillows you use
  • The firmness of your pillow(s)
  • Lighting in your room (e.g. if your digital alarm clock faces you or faces away from you)
  • What time you go to bed
  • How close to bedtime you watch TV
  • Tobacco/nicotine
  • Reading before bed (for pleasure or for business)
  • Etc. etc.

You can learn a lot more at the Zeo Website

Whether it’s Father’s Day or any other occasion, Dads always want a sign they are loved & understood!

I came across a very cool site, StationBay.com, that has a huge selection of awesome tin signs (like the large selection of mini clocks I found recently).  Because Father’s Day is around the corner, I wanted to highlight some tin signs that Dad would be proud to display (and it’s a very reasonably-priced gift!):

Help Them Keep Time With Style

Posted by giftguy, May 17th, 2009

I have to say – this is one of my favorite gift ideas so far.  Favorite primarily because this company, Miniclock.com, has an incredible selection of small, miniature clocks!

Because it is time-consuming to add images and links into a blog post, I cannot do Miniclocks.com justice with the few mini clocks highlighted below.  These aren’t even necessarily the coolest or most-interesting clocks, it’s just that I was overwhelmed with all of the choices.

The gift (from Hammacher Schlemmer) might give you some amusement as well as you imagine the recipient scrambling around in the morning to find the flying rotor in order to silence the alarm on the clock.

The New Old Man and the Sea

It’s a new age. And Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea would probably have a different storyline with today’s fishing technology advancements.

While not a cheap gift, a fish finder (aka “fishfinder”) is also not un-attainable from a budget perspective. Most fishfinders range from $199 to $2,800.

Some popular brands of fishfinders include EchoPilot, Furuno, Humminbird, Interphase, Northstar, and Raymarine.

Browse the selection of fish finders below from Boater’s World to find the perfect gift for your Old Man in the Sea:
