Seven Ply – “Turning Thrash’n into Fashion”
Apr 22nd
Well, I’ve been meaning to get to this gift review for awhile now!
Lynn Weiler of Seven Ply contacted me about her handmade jewelry made from recycled skateboards, and when I took a look I immediately saw that this is a unique gift idea worth mentioning.
Lynn’s Seven Ply shop is hosted on Etsy, where the mission is to ”enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers.”

My first thought when I saw the jewelry (and other cool recycled skateboard products in Sevenply’s Etsy shop), was not only would this be great for women in general, but especially for female skateboarders (check out Girlz on Boardz!) and for girlfriends and wives of guys who have a passion for boarding.
To get a flavor for the types of products (in this case jewelry and belt buckles), I have highlighted a few of my favorites below:
Earrings

The Gift of Google for Your Technically Challenged Elders
Mar 23rd
It’s here!!!
Google for Seniors: Get Acquainted with Free Google Applications: Google Earth, Maps, Reader, Docs, Sites, Chrome
Despite the unfortunate release date of April 1st (April Fool’s Day), this came to fruition as a real book! (I had originally posted this as an “it’s coming” post prior to being published, and I had this small tickle in my brain that April Fool’s day was coming).

So, for your grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles, senior friends that may (actually) have an interest in becoming better-acquainted with all the rich information that Google has to offer, this could be a winning gift idea.
I personally think that donating this book to a Senior Center, Elderly Housing Complex, Assisted Living Living Facility, etc. would be very welcomed by those organizations.
Here’s a description of the book:
With step-by-step instructions and illustrative screenshots, this guide is designed specifically for seniors, and provides detailed information on the free software and services provided online by Google. For beginners and more advanced computer users alike, this insightful resource shows how to perform tasks such as exploring the world, building a free website, browsing the internet, creating documents, and sharing web albums & sharing online calendars, by using the host of options available through Google.
Give the Gift of Memories
Mar 7th
It’s a wonderful world these days where it is now sooooo easy to organize your photos and publish your own photo book full of memories.

Giving a custom-made, personalized photo book is a fantastic gift, and practically guaranteed to WOW!! the recipient.
Unless, you don’t take great pictures, or if slap something together as quickly as possible, or the person receiving the photo book doesn’t like the memories you are presenting….
There are so many occasions that fit this kind of present – anniversaries, graduations, birthdays, thank-you’s, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day (maybe), and even just-because.
Most people already have their own personal favorite photo-sharing website, but here’s a quick list just in case you don’t have a favorite yet:

GiftGuy owns a Zeo, and his ZQ currently ranges between 57 and 79…
Here’s a great gadget for that person in your life that is hard to buy for and/or has trouble getting enough sleep. The Zeo Personal Sleep Coach (think of it as your own personal sleep monitor) is currently priced at $250, was developed with leading sleep scientists, and lets you track your sleep at home. The company that invented and sells the Zeo is offering a 30 Day Risk Free Trial…

The Zeo is a personal sleep monitor that you wear on on your forehead with a lightweight stretchy band. The Zeo monitors your brain activity provides data about the quality of sleep that you are getting.
The Zeo is NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE!!! It IS a cool gadget that can help you understand more about the quality of sleep you are getting when you make changes to your routine (by monitoring your sleep patterns and brain patterns at night while you are sleeping). For example, you might see that you have an average ZQ score between 50 and 60 when you first start (if you do not typically get high-quality sleep), but you might make changes in your life in the following and see how your score improves:
- Exercise!!!
- Number of caffeinated drinks per day
- How close to bedtime you have caffeine
- Eating sweets
- How close you eat to bedtime
- Alcohol consumption
- How many pillows you use
- The firmness of your pillow(s)
- Lighting in your room (e.g. if your digital alarm clock faces you or faces away from you)
- What time you go to bed
- How close to bedtime you watch TV
- Tobacco/nicotine
- Reading before bed (for pleasure or for business)
- Etc. etc.
You can learn a lot more at the Zeo Website…
