Friday Finds from the Gift World

Posted by MsGift, Jun 06th, 2008

I am feeling lazy today so I thought I would point you toward some great gifts other people are talking about:

  • Art lovers take notice. Shawn at Everything and Nothing has the ‘Most Beautiful Book in the World‘. This $150,000 book titled Michelangelo: La Dotta Mano features photos of Michelangelo’s works.
  • Kristin at Cool Mom Picks has a really cool ‘Baby Makes Three Necklace‘. The necklace contains three rings held together on a cable chain. This would make a great gift for the expecting mother!
  • Know someone in your life who is just a little TOO paranoid? The Hidden Camera Detector they have over at Kaboodle would be a good solution. For $25 you can put someone’s mind at ease that there are no hidden cameras in their house.
  • Violet has these Wobbly Cognac Glasses that would make a great gift for the alcohol aficionado in your life. They look fun and I bet I could spend hours watching it wobble around.

All right that’s the round-up. Have a great weekend fellow gift givers!

One of the things we like to do here on GiftStumped is show you who else is out there talking about cool products and gift ideas. Hey, we can’t think of everything right?

This week we wanted to feature Retro To Go.

Run by Modculture Media, the site features some of the coolest and of course unique retro products I have ever seen. From t-shirts to tables to old school toys and games, they cover everything. They also have competitions where you can win some of these products…awesome!

Here are a couple of my favorite “Retro gifts”:

retro bbq turn table ring pong clock
Retro BBQ Turntable Ring Pong Clock

Get over there and check out the site! They have some fun stuff that will make you want to watch Austin Powers and put on some of these funky rings!

I Love Curiobot

Anyone looking for cool gift ideas should absolutely check out Curiobot.net. Don and Angel are the mad scientists behind this website.

Here are some excerpts from their own About page:

“Curiobot is a growing collection of the most interesting things for sale on the internet. We find them in their holes, deep down in the deepest depths of the internet, and pull them out.

Our continuing goal is to become a graphic archive of all the wild and wonderful things sold across the internet.

We want to be half museum and half garage sale. Half library and half amusement park. Not a blog: they’re too personal and text-based. Not a shopping site: their navigation schemes are static, sales-driven, and bland.

Navigating our site should be a fun and explorative process (like browsing a candy shop), but the site will also be structured as a helpful tool (like the nice candy shop clerk who shows you the best of the peanut brittle).

Think of this site as your fantasy storage closet.

At its worst, Curiobot is a site that encourages wasteful I-didn’t-know-I-needed-that buying habits and widens the market for obscure and useless goods. At its best, however, it helps dissolve the distinction between useless and useful, and celebrates our need for both.”

Don and Angel also created a cool Google Gadget where a website can pull in their product listings, like so:

I was never intending to write posts that did not have a specific gift idea in them. Let alone promote a site/blog that “competes” with ours. But, I just came across a blog that really does have some very cool, unique gift ideas – Terminal7.

I’d encourage you to check it out.

… and I think I’ll make it a habit to point out gift sites that go above & beyond.
